SECOND MOVEMENT
-
Linen or the Blue gold - a Breton legacy - is at the heart of this second episode
The "First Chapter" - divided in three movements - is inspired by Celtic Brittany, peninsula between land and sea, where the Breton people are emotionally anchored to their homeland while sailing away towards new horizons to explore and open up to the world, yet are also being influenced by travellers from all around visiting Brittany and discovering its culture.
NOLWENN FALIGOT is inspired by the everyday traditional wardrobe, men’s and women’s workwear outfits, which are rarely spoken of compared to ostentatious ceremonial attires.
In other words, the farmer and the sailor are coming together, an encounter bound to happen in the Breton peninsula.
From volume to detail, the pieces all draw from regional traditional features, before reinterpretation influenced by other cultures and ethnies.
Thus the smocking detail - a Nolwenn Faligot signature - is for instance borrowed from historical Breton clothing.
The duality between land and sea is also highlighted in the colour palette and the patterns of the collection, especially the wind and wave symbols evoking the Breton elements.
